Hi,
After earning a 9-figure income over the last few decades, I've noticed something that irritates me tremendously.
The most driven people I know—entrepreneurs, sales pros, high performers—often hit a wall.
Not because they lack skill. Not because they’re not working hard enough.
They hit the wall because nobody tells them the truth about what it actually takes to break through to the next level.
Everyone wants to sell them soft advice.
“Follow your passion.”
“Work-life balance.”
“Manifest your dreams.”
Garbage.
So I’m trying something new.
On November 18th, at 1:00 PM ET, I’m hosting a free live workshop:
“The 3 Lies About Success That Keep High Achievers Stuck (And the 9-Figure Truth Nobody Tells You)”
I’m going to share what I’ve learned from decades of building real wealth—not theory, but frameworks that actually work.
This isn’t a sales pitch. It’s what I wish someone had told me 30 years ago.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, invisible, or wondered why you’re not where you should be—this is for you.
The Turkey, The Sweater, and The Turning Point
Back in 1979, both Larry Weidel and Rusty Crossland were grinding through the early days of their careers—broke, hungry, and trying to figure it all out.
Larry had just made a massive leap of faith. Living on food stamps and unemployment, he scraped together enough money—by having a yard sale—to rent a moving truck and relocate his family to North Carolina. No salary. No guarantees. Just commission and conviction.
Six months later, reality hit hard.
Despite recruiting eight people, his premium was only $1,800. Which gave him a commission of less than $1000. Not much when you had office and house rent to pay as well as feeding a wife and two young boys. His reward?
“Turkey of the Month.”
And not in private. This was a nationwide award announced by Art Williams himself—meant to humiliate and provoke. Instead of a trophy, it was a public punch to the gut. But Larry didn’t sulk. He rebuilt from the ashes. By April 1981, just 18 months later, his base shop was doing $140,000 a month—and ranked #1 nationwide.
Rusty got his turn in Montreal the very next month.
In front of everyone, he was awarded the now-infamous:
“Torn Sweater Award.”
“That was the most humiliating day of my career,” Rusty admitted. “But I will say—my motivation was triggered.”
That sting fueled a fire. The next year, Rusty’s team went on to win MVP of the entire company.
What looked like public shaming was actually master-level leadership psychology. Art Williams knew how to provoke greatness. He didn’t coddle—he challenged. And Larry and Rusty took the bait.
“Art didn’t give me a trophy,” Larry said. “He gave me a hard time. And it worked.”
Moral of the Story
Sometimes, your lowest moment is the one that flips the switch. The embarrassment. The failure. The gut punch.
If you let it, that pain becomes fuel.
“The ups, the downs, and the rebounds—that’s the path to success.”
